Japan is one of the earliest countries to develop a strong sense of environmental protection.
As early as 1977, Japan Environment Association (JEA), a non- government environmental group, was set up to support environmental education and conservation activities, and to promote ecological products. One of their achievements is the "Eco Mark Program", introduced since 1989, which seeks to promote ecological lifestyle through wise product choice. Under the program, JEA awards the "Eco Mark" to products with relatively less environmental impact compared to similar products.
To achieve the goal of becoming a "recycling society", the Basic Law of Environmental Protection was introduced in 1993 to set out the basic policy considerations for environmental protection.
In 2001, Japan also implemented the Food Recycling Law specially targeting to reduce food waste. The Japanese Government aims to
- Reduce the amount of yearly disposal from 74 millions tones to 37 millions tones in 2010.
- Reduce food waste by 20% (by 2006).
- Encourage transformation of food waste to electric power.
As a member country of the "Kyoto Protocol", an international treaty signed in 1997 by 172 countries which aimed to combat global warming by limiting the emission of greenhouse gases, Japan has agreed to reduce its greenhouse gas emission by 6% by 2012. To help meet Japan's target under the Kyoto Protocol, both the Japanese government and the Japan Business Federation (the Nippon Keidanren) are providing financial support to projects which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Bio-Cube, as an environment-friendly food waste processor, will qualify for the "Eco Mark" in Japan which will assist in its marketing as a "green" product. As it reduces greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional food waste treatment processes and produces renewable energy, Bio-Cube would also qualify for funding support from the Japanese Government and the Nippon Keidanren.
Bio-Cube would be a most useful tool in helping your company meet your obligations under the relevant environmental laws, helping your country to meet their emission reduction targets and enhancing the status of your company as a "green" citizen.
